FAQs

"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."

Philippians 4:8

01 | What is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient practice combining God's gifts of breath, movement, and meditation to transform our physical and emotional well-being.

02 | What does science say about the benefits of Yoga?

Numerous studies show the many physical and mental physical benefits of yoga. Research shows that up to 90% of doctor visits are linked to stress-related problems. That’s why yoga is considered such a perfect remedy. According to a Harvard Medical School study, “Yoga is the one tool that simultaneously releases stress while improving strength, balance, flexibility, and overall health. No pill has the power to improve so many areas of your life at one time.”

03 | What meditations do you provide?

Based on a biblical perspective, I provide basic breathing, guided imagery, and loving-kindness meditations.

Basic Breathing meditations bring focus and awareness to the breath. By engaging in basic breathing meditation, we are harnessing our body's ability to self-soothe and provide ourselves with mental and emotional grounding.

Guided Imagery meditations work much like basic breathing meditations for more visually oriented clients. In this form of meditation, we use mental images to make meditation easier.

Loving-Kindness meditations, called metta, encourage compassion for self and others. According to the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, loving-kindness meditations may actually help keep you younger by increasing levels of the telomerase enzyme. Shorter telomeres are associated with disease and death and chronic stress contributes to shortening them. By dialing back stress levels, yoga may help protect your telomeres. Researchers found that a daily 12-minute yoga meditation increased the activity of telomerase, the enzyme that helps maintain and rebuild telomeres by 43%.

04 | How do I square my Christian faith with the practice of Yoga?

The God of Heaven created and gifted our bodies with many tools to serve us for a lifetime! Whenever possible, we should use those tools to optimize our physical and emotional well-being. The practice of Yoga can bring us the gift of more beautiful bodies, calmer spirits, and mental grounding. Yoga is definitely a tool in the vastness of "God being God"— gifting us with one useful way (out of many) to guide us towards good physical and mental health.
